Mid-Season Break Recap

We’ve hit the mid-season break, and what a first half it’s been for the Assassins! For the first time in club history, all three teams—Premier Women, Premier Men and Div 2 Men—are heading into the break undefeated. A huge testament to the off-season work, commitment at training, and the depth and drive shown on the pitch every week.

The Premier Women have dominated with confidence and cohesion, playing some of their best rugby to date. The Premier Men came out firing from game one, proving their power and pace against every opponent. The Div 2 Men have blended youth and experience to put together a gritty, unbeaten run of their own.

As we rest and reset before the back half of the season, the energy is high and the standard is set.

We’re always looking to add more players—men and women of all levels are welcome! Whether you’re brand new or looking to get back into it, now’s a great time to come out. Practice times and location can be found under the Schedule tab!

2025 Youth Rugby Recap – Building the Game from the Ground Up!

This season’s Youth Rugby Program was a massive success, with outstanding numbers and energy across all age groups! Head Coach Caleb Stick, alongside assistants David Letain an alumni Joel Verville, led the charge in creating a fun, safe and exciting rugby environment for our youngest players to grow and thrive.

Our U8 Flag Rugby group came out in full force with amazing turnout and energy every week, while our U14 Intro to Contact squad took huge strides learning the fundamentals of the game and building confidence on the pitch. Seeing so many young athletes take to the sport with enthusiasm was a clear sign: the future of rugby is looking bright!

We also saw a strong participation during the Rugby Jamborees hosted by Rugby Manitoba, where our youth players got to showcase their skills and experience the rugby community in full force.

A huge thank you to the parents who showed up week after week, supporting their kids and giving them the chance to try something new. And of course, our deepest gratitude to the Assassins Alumni Memorial Golf Tournament—whose fundraising efforts help keep costs low so every child can experience rugby without financial barriers. Because rugby should be for everyone!

Here’s to growing the game, one little Assassin at a time!

High School Season Recap – The Next Generation is Coming in Strong

What a season for our High School Assassins! From the first kickoff to the final whistle, these young athletes showed grit, growth, and a whole lot of heart. Whether it was their first year lacing up cleats or their last ride before moving on to club rugby, each player brought something special to the field.

Our boys and girls teams came out swinging this year—competing hard, learning fast and leaving everything out there on the pitch. Wins, losses and everything in between, they played with pride and represented the Assassins name well.

A big shoutout to the players for committing week after week, balancing school, sports and showing up ready to work. Massive thanks to the coaches and families who brought them all season long.

And of course—to our graduating athletes: your journey is just beginning. We can’t wait to see many of you out playing in the blue and white soon. This is Toughness, Character & Tradition.

2025 High School Academy Day — Building the Future of Rugby

Our annual High School Academy Day was another amazing success, bringing together a group of eager young athletes ready to grow their rugby skills and passion for the game. Hosted by the Assassins, the day featured hands-on skills training, game-play scenarios and coaching from some of the club’s top players and alumni’s—giving students a real look at what rugby can offer beyond high school.

What makes this day even more special is that it’s completely free for all participating athletes, thanks to the generous support of the Assassins Alumni Memorial Golf Tournament. Through this fundraising event, we’re able to cover the costs of turf rental, provide meals for lunch, and gift every participant with some awesome free Assassin merch. It’s our way of ensuring that no student misses out on this opportunity because of financial barriers.

A huge thank you goes out to all our volunteers, coaches and club members who helped bring the day to life, especially our YDO Brendan Kowal, who gives so much to the youth program! To our alumni and tournament supporters who generosity continues to make lasting impact on youth rugby!

We’re proud to help grow the next generation of players—and can’t wait to see many of them out of the pitch wearing Assassin colours in the future!
