Update: Ciaran Woods who was the recipient of the Peter Scouras Memorial Scholarship has been out plying his rugby trade at the University of Victoria. Rugby and Academics are a large portion of Ciaran’s life out on the island. Ciaran is in the General Sciences program and is enrolled in Biology, Physics and Chemistry courses. His long term plans are to major in Biology.
Along with his course work Ciaran is putting some serious effort into his rugby over in BC. Ciaran is committed to getting stronger and faster every single day. The Assassins 2018 Rookie of the Year has been playing for one of the University of Victoria’s 3 teams called the Saxons. Ciaran normally finds himself starting on the wing. While training with his team 3 times a week; Ciaran feels like he is improving in many facets of the game. When asked Ciaran stated that his line running, defensive alignment, tackling and overall knowledge of the laws have all reached another level.
Ciaran is no stranger to putting his all in to his rugby. Prior to moving out west to challenge himself and improve as a player; Ciaran looked to maximize his growth through the Rakau Rugby Academy run by Caleb Stick who also coached the Assassins in 2019. Ciaran’s season is off to a great start as his team is currently sitting at 5-1 just prior to the midseason break. Ciaran’s club in Winnipeg is hoping to see him sometime over the holiday season and will be wishing him all the best in 2020 where ever the game of rugby takes him!
