The Assassins RFC run three Rugby Canada Rookie Rugby programs. Rookie Rugby introduces youth from the ages of 5 to 14 the game of rugby. Over the 8 week program, participants will be confident executing basic rugby skills such as running with the ball, passing, and kicking.
For older participants the program will culminate with 4 organized flag rugby tournaments. There is also a program for older participants which introduces athletes to contact rugby with tackling and rucking. This program will help young players become confident in contact and allow for a smooth transition into high school rugby.
The programs are run from the following community clubs:
Headed by Chris Chapman (Assassins Alumni and former Assassins coach), these three rookie rugby programs will have approximately 150 participants for Spring 2016. Chapman now serves the position of Youth/Junior Development Head of Rugby Manitoba’s Board of Directors. Many current and past Assassins will volunteer to assist running these programs.
The Assassins RFC are committed to rugby at the grassroots level. Not only does the club view the young Rookie Rugby participants as future Assassins, the club also stands behind the belief that the youth will value this fun new sport and can create lasting friendships with fellow participants.
